We made three compost bins last year and with the all the pig, cow and chicken manure they fill up fast.  We rotate them around to aerate the piles.  Keeping them moist is one of the keys to making good compost.  Also finding the right balance of carbon material (brown leaves, straw, etc.) and nitrogen rich materials like chicken manure is a science we are still trying to master.  The removable boards are made from a large ceder tree that blew down in a storm.  We ripped them using an attachment for the chainsaw.  We have clay soil and the compost really helps the soil.
